Traditional Gingerbread

Nothing beats the sweet and spicy taste of gingerbread during the holidays! Enjoy the wistful nostalgia of holiday cheer with this traditional recipe.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup unsulphured molasses
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
3/4 tsp salt
1 cup boiling water

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease or line with a parchment paper a 9×9 baking pan.
Combine butter and brown sugar in a large bowl and beat until creamy. Add the molasses and combine well. Add egg and vanilla and combine well.
In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt together.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet until completely combined. Very carefully stir in the boiling water until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake in the center rack for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
Enjoy!
