Making Natural Deodorants

Making Natural Deodorants

A simple recipe from Native Americans

Sweating is good for us, but sweating is smelly. How to keep our bodies smelling good?  Keep it clean and use natural deodorants. Commercial deodorants often contain harsh harmful ingredients or potentially aggravating fragrance chemicals. Natural deodorants use naturally derived fragrances and gentler ingredients. Natural deodorants don’t block sweat glands or reduce perspiration like antiperspirants do. Instead, they help neutralize odors. They can do this by reducing bacteria responsible for producing odors and masking the smell of odors with added fragrance.

Here are some tips and a super simple recipe from Native Americans.

The major 2 ingredients are essential oils and a natural absorbent.
Recommended oils: lavender, sandalwood, or bergamot
Recommended absorbents: baking soda, arrowroot, or cornstarch

Arrowroot Deodorant
Ingredients: ¼ cup arrowroot starch
1/3 cup coconut oil
¼ cup baking soda
6 drops of essential oils

Mix baking soda and arrowroot. Add your favorite essential oils and place the mixture in a clean glass jar. When ready to use, take a small amount of the mixture and warm between you fingers until it becomes liquid. Apply to your pits.

If baking soda irritates your skin, slightly decrease its amount until you feel fully comfortable.

Natural deodorants let you sweat the way your body naturally should.

Stay well and smell good!
