Finding Inner Peace in Turbulent Times

anxiety of the unknown

In today’s unsettling times, with so many untruths clouding our judgment and filling us with fear, it is easy to be swept away with stress and anxiety of the unknown. With finances, future of your job, health issues, safety of your children, and your future, your spirit is drifting into murky waters.  It’s time to send your spirit a life vest and pull you out of the uncertainties that are causing overindulgence, poor eating habits, insomnia, alcoholism, drugs, anxiety attacks, and depression. A strong spirit is the only thing that will get you through troubling times. There will always be troubling times of uncertainty, but when you make friends with the unknown, you may struggle, but it will be from a place of strength. Worry weakens you. Faith strengthens you.

Here are a couple of tips on how to achieve that!

1. Take A Breath Break! Yes, simply breathe. Your breath is a powerful tool. It has been scientifically proven to lower your cortisol stress level and calm your heart rate. Clear the mind and connect with your intuition.  Check out of one of my breath breaks: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CNoNQyCA69u/?utm_medium=copy_link

2. Create a strong foundation by creating ritual not routine.  Ritual is putting spirit into your routine.  A ritual is filled with mindfulness and feeds your soul.  To create ritual in your life, make the ordinary, extraordinary.   Start your day by lighting a candle, say a prayer to connect with spirit and some positive affirmations.   Shower in love – Draw a heart in the palm of your hand with your shampoo and body wash and lather up the love.  End your day with a prayer of gratitude for all you experienced that day, all that your soul grew from.  Eat consciously. Create a cooking ritual by lighting a candle, wash your stress off your hands, and prepare your food with love. It will taste better and be digested better.

3. Schedule spiritual connection time

We schedule gym time, playtime, sleep time, yet the most important, we have not been taught. Give your spirit, yes remember, that thing that gets you through everything, some time to meditate, connect, do some Qigong, sit out in nature and listen to the wind.  Go for a mindfulness walk, being totally present in the now.  Once a year disconnect from everyone for, at least 24 hours, to reconnect with your soul. You reboot your computer, you take your car in for a tune up, you get your annual physical, but what do you do for your soul? Yup, get out in nature, live and eat in mindfulness, retreat inward and reconnect with your soul requires getting away.  If you try to do at home retreats, or call your family vacation your reboot, you are fooling yourself. To truly retreat to your soul, requires getting out of the physical energy of your life.

4. Turn off the social media

When trying to find inner peace, stay away from things that distract you from your goal.  Connect with friends and family on a more meaningful level, and less time being preoccupied with what other people are doing and stressing about. Remember everyone has an agenda.  Behind most facts you will find on social media, is someone selling something. Even me! I sell peace of mind. Taking time to disconnect gives you more time to focus on yourself and learn how to not compare yourself to others.

5. Create Acknowledgment List not a to-do-list

A wise person once told me that the best way to success is to stay goal-oriented. It is important to have a plan and a strategy of how you will stick to the plan, but don’t get caught up in letting it own you. It is simply a guide and not a to do list. What you focus on you create. If you live focused on your to- do- list, you are doing just that, a to-do list instead of living. It feeds validation and more so, invalidation, every time you don’t get the never-ending list done.  Yes, this is your stress list!!  When you are able to focus on what you accomplished and celebrate it each day, you will get things done and feel fulfilled at the end of the day instead of exhausted and defeated. Use it as a celebration list.

6. Learn to trust yourself

Relax and trust yourself. Everything in life has a purpose. The good, the bad, the hard times the good times, they all are part of your soul’s growth.  Repeat that in your mind every morning.  Because the truth is, it all works out in the end.  Every choice you make, everything situation you find yourself in, on a higher level, is created for your soul’s growth. Put your full trust in yourself by following your intuition and doing your best, and then move forward one step at a time with faith and confidence knowing that mistakes are teachers, roadblocks are detours to something better, and struggles give you strength for what is waiting for you at the end of it.  When you have faith in the divine plan, that everything is for a reason, there is nothing to trust but yourself. It is your life, you know what’s best for you; if you put your trust in anything or anyone else, you’re living someone else’s life. Again remember, everyone has an agenda, even you!

7. Focus on experiencing to learn and grow

When you embrace each day with the attitude that you are open to whatever the universe has to offer you as a teacher, it empowers you to step out of victim mode. When things go wrong, you see them as opportunities of growth. When you make mistakes, you honor them as opportunities to grow.   The journey we call life isn’t supposed to be easy, that would be boring and stagnant, it’s supposed to be an experiential journey for your soul’s growth. To never struggle is to never grow.

8. Get rid of expectations

Dream yes – lock yourself into an expectation, and you’ve killed the dream. Expectations are the voice of the ego screaming for validation.  Validation is insatiable and will always be the joy kill.  Let the dreams roll and then expectations arise, stop drop and kill them.

9. Find a new beginning in every ending.

When one door closes, another door opens. Every new beginning comes from something else that ended.  Every day is a new beginning; treat it that way.  Leave the past in the past. You can’t change yesterday, and tomorrow isn’t here yet, so keep your attention on today. When you get stuck in the past, you can’t move forward – the baggage is too heavy. When you constantly worry about the future, you are stealing your own power to be in the present moment.  Thank each day for all the life lessons it has taught you and let your future know you are ready for it! Step out and embrace life with enthusiasm for all it has to offer.
