Tarot and Relationships with Yourself

Tarot and Relationships

When people think about tarot and relationships, I’ve noticed they have a tendency to think about it in terms of “Is he cheating on me?” and “Why is she trying to ruin my life?” This is totally understandable.

Tarot promises to answer all your questions whatever the question. But does it? I am here to tell you that Tarot readers and psychics are not here to help you manipulate your relationships with others. We are here to help you work on the most important relationship you have. The relationship you have with yourself.

People are always more worried about how so-and-so is treating them. But I have noticed from many of my clients that they rarely consider how they are treating themselves. I can pull card after card telling me that they take on too much; they worry about all the people around them, and that their self-care or lack of is what has them feeling so turned around and out of sync. They seem surprised almost every time. The hardest news that I ever have to deliver seems to be the news that tells someone that they are in a toxic relationship…with themselves.

As a professional reader, I feel like it’s not just my responsibility to read the cards like some kind of manual, but to try to help the client connect with their messages in a way that helps them move forward. Most of the time this means telling them they are expecting others to treat them in ways they aren’t even willing to treat themselves. Cue the waterworks. Because taking care of yourself sounds easy in theory, but can actually be the most complicated issue we deal with. Take the time and effort to work on the relationship you have with YOU.

Take that bubble bath, make time to go for that walk that you want, treat yourself with the same kindness and respect that you expect others to. Listen to yourself with both compassion and temperance. Take time to love yourself.

When I’m up at 2:14 in the morning and I can’t seem to figure out why I’m not sleeping, I turn to my deck.

The deck takes that whispering voice and makes it loud and 3 dimensional. I have a way to, actually,  have a conversation with me.

“Hey cards, why am I so upset right now?”

“Well, Michele here’s a reversed Sun. You’re not happy.”

“Ok, I KNOW I’m not happy, I asked WHY!”

“Have a Two of Swords because you don’t trust yourself.”

“What are you saying? I totally trust myself!”

“Here’s the Ten of Wands. Girl, you forgot your boundaries AGAIN. You’re carrying everyone’s else’s burdens.”

“I’ve been doing really well with boundaries. Don’t I get some credit? How do I get back on track?”

“King of cups, Queen of Wands, Ten of Swords. You are a Queen. You have an amazing supportive husband. Why not take some time to consider which burdens are YOURS and which you should give back? Whatever is left, share with your PARTNER. That is why you got married, isn’t it? To share your life, good and bad, with him?”

“Touche myself, touche…”

Your relationship with yourself is everlasting, make it a priority to keep that relationship happy and healthy. Whether it’s with tarot cards, a mirror, or just a good old-fashioned journal, make sure you are communicating your needs and actually listening. If you can master a relationship with yourself, you can use those tools to improve your relationships with others.
