Positive affirmations and intentionally enlisting the power of the law of attraction have their place, especially when crippled by incessant self-judgment, fear or negativity. However, there comes a time when there dawns an inner knowing that there must be more than getting what we want, that the total fullness and joy of life has not fully revealed itself. Sometimes, it is a matter of all of our best efforts have simply stopped working . . . or perhaps it has never worked!
Could there be a higher purpose to not attaining what we want? Could this painful and disappointing experience be a form of Divine intervention of the highest order? Perhaps some of us are “old” Souls. Well, maybe not old, but a Soul on the verge of a breakthrough – a breakthrough beyond the small self. Ever consider that our Soul may be purposely thwarting our attempts to get whatever we want . . . because that would just feed the ego, the fear-based small self that is the REAL cause of ALL suffering?
The small cup cannot grasp the whole ocean no matter how hard it tries and no matter how much it gets, but the small cup can dissolve into the ocean, thereby becoming the ocean. Freedom from the ego, not the aggrandizement of that illusory small self, has been the inspiration of every great spiritual teaching.
In my own awakening and unfoldment process, I wrote signs and posted them up all over my home to counteract the relentless onslaught of egoic thoughts that threatened to keep me in bondage forever. However, it was pretty tricky coming up with liberating messages of Truth rather than affirmations of ego self-aggrandizement which would strengthen the very cause of suffering. Fortunately, Divine Guidance came through and I relied on these messages. Some were comforting and some were quite challenging, but they were all designed to reveal the Truth of Liberation and Unconditional Love. I will share below some of these messages of Love, which I made into signs of Freedom that I posted in various places around my home.

My ultimate purpose is not physical survival. It is to stop bowing to illusion. Only then will I realize my eternal nature.
