Restoring liver health after a holiday season
Our liver represents the human body’s primary filtration system. It is one of the most hard-working organs we have. Treat your liver as one of your best friends. It really is! Whatever you do – sleeping, working, eating or drinking, it always does its best for you – converting toxins into waste products, cleansing your blood, and metabolizing nutrients. As such a fundamental part of the body’s overall regulation, it’s in our best interests to keep our liver healthy and happy.
What to do?
1. Gentle cleanse – take 1 tablespoon of virgin olive oil with several drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice first thing in the morning. Drink a glass of warm lemon water 20 minutes after it. Wait another 20 minutes before you eat your breakfast.
2. Include the following foods in your diet- grapefruit, blueberry, nuts, oily fish, broccoli, and cabbage.
3. Drink lemon water, green and peppermint tea. Studies have shown that drinking coffee can also promote liver health.
4. Cook food with turmeric, garlic and ginger.
5. Minimize alcohol, sweets, red meat, and fried food.
