As May begins with a fast-approaching close Uranus-Saturn square within about two degrees and about a degree by the end of the month, the severity of the square would certainly be reflected in material world disasters including both the natural and man-made calamities such as a possible outbreak and spreading of a new virus (especially in India), natural disasters due to abnormal weather conditions all around the world. Unless these energies are properly understood, the man-made calamities might include increased friction between world powers (USA-Russia and China) perhaps resulting into war-like climate. More on this is detailed below.
Towards the end of May (May 26) a short lived total lunar eclipse occurs that would be visible in Australia for about 15 minutes. A partial eclipse will be visible in part of Western US, Western South America and South-East Asia. For those who have the lunar nodes in conjunction with either Sun or Moon in their natal charts and have sidereal Taurus or Scorpio rising or Taurus or Scorpio as moon sign, might want to lay back. It’s probably not a good day. Take extra precaution and avoid any sort of new activity or new venture during the eclipse. More on this is detailed below.
On May 30, the planet Mercury becomes retrograde in Gemini. This is not a good time to start a new project or venture, but rather reflect on what’s been done so far. Also, this is the best time to declutter and do other chores that you have been postponing due to lack of time. More on this is detailed below.
Saturn-Uranus Square (January 18 – July 19)
One of the most important and challenging planetary combinations of 2021 is the Capricorn Saturn and Aries Uranus square during January 18 thru July 19 and then during the entire month of December 2021.
Aries being a fire and cardinal sign is very suitable for brilliant, independent, ambitious, energetic, impulsive and crazy Uranus. The changes in world political landscape have been tremendously influenced by Uranus’s transit in Aries.
Now combine the Uranus’s energy with that of steadfast and subtle but very powerful energy of Capricorn Saturn through its challenging square with Uranus. This combination creates “perfect” opportunities for material world disasters including the natural calamities such as a possible outbreak and spreading of a new virus. Unless these energies are properly understood, the man-made turmoils might include increased friction between world powers (USA-Russia and China) perhaps resulting into war-like climate.
The people who are likely to be most affected by this square are military personnel, people in power such as business leaders and political leaders. In scientific and technological areas expect drastic changes. On a positive note, emerging new ideas will find their ways into innovations and discoveries.
The characteristics of Uranus are closely tied with that of the United States as a country (especially the states of California, Oregon and Washington), the likelihood of serious natural and man-made calamities, political and financial upheavals is strong in the country as a whole and the above mentioned states in particular.
Since characteristics of Uranus are more aligned with liberal ideas and that of Saturn with conservatism, I wouldn’t be surprised if an intense battle emerges between the right wing republicans and the left wing democrats not only in congress but all over the country that might last through July.
A Total Lunar Eclipse (May 26)
A total lunar eclipse occurs on May 26, approximately during the hours of 9:00 to 13:00 GMT. This eclipse will be visible in Australia for about 15 minutes. A partial eclipse will be visible in part of Western US, Western South America and South-East Asia.
The Sun will be with Rahu (the north lunar node) and Moon will be with Ketu (the south lunar node) within 5 degrees. The eclipse will occur with the Southern or descending node Ketu, in the sidereal zodiac sign Scorpio and the ascending node Rahu in Taurus. Consequently this eclipse, according to Vedic astrology, is likely to be unfavorable for those who have sidereal Taurus or Scorpio rising or Taurus or Scorpio as moon sign.
For those who have the lunar nodes in conjunction with either Sun or Moon in their natal charts, should watch-out. It’s probably not a good day. Take extra precaution and avoid any sort of new activity or new venture during the eclipse.
Retrograde Mercury (May 30 – June 23)
On May 30, the planet Mercury becomes retrograde in Gemini. It will stay retrograde in Gemini/Taurus until June 23. Typically retrograde Mercury means anxieties, communication breakdowns, unexpected delays, frustrations, missing deadlines, unforeseen obstacles and disappointment in daily chores. Retrograde Mercury in Gemini means more frustrating periods for educators, academics, traders, communicators, merchants, activists and researchers. This is not a good time to start a new project or venture, but rather reflect on what’s been done so far. Also, this is the best time to cleanup that closet and do other chores that you have been postponing due to lack of time.
In addition, if you have dominating Mercury in your birth chart and if Mercury is currently your operating planet, then you are more likely to experience the pronounced effects of retrograde Mercury during this period with respect to matters signified by the house it’s currently transiting through in your Gochar (transit) chart.
Jupiter’s transit in the sidereal Aquarius (Phase 1: April 5 – Sept 15)
On April 5, Jupiter left (sidereal) Capricorn and temporarily entered the next zodiac sign, Aquarius. Jupiter’s transit from one zodiac sign to the next occurs, on average, once a year. This time, the first phase of Jupiter’s transit in Aquarius will last until Sept 15, 2021.
Jupiter’s manifestation in Aquarius will certainly be reflected in emergence of new philosophies, philosophical debates, and as a result, perhaps new norms and new way of living. For the entire world, in general, it’s going to be an auspicious time from the philosophical and collective spiritual advancement point of view. In addition, Aquarius being a fixed sign, the resulting philosophical influences will likely to be long lasting.
On individual levels, for those who have dominant Jupiter in their birth charts and have Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini, Leo, or Libra as their natal ninefold (Navamansa) ascendant are likely to experience a very positive period beginning April 5 thru September 15, and then Nov 20, 2021 thru April 13, 2022.
May for President Joe Biden
For President Joe Biden, the planetary picture looks to be more stable and active for May.
Given the planet’s dispositions in his transit chart, Jupiter has been more favorable for him since April 5 in achieving quite a few goals that he has set out to do, and these likely to include humanitarian needs. Additionally, Mercury will be successful for the entire month in dealing with day-to-day issues and getting things done. His popularity is likely to further rise as Americans experience more stability.
The energy of Mars will not be unfavorable for him, but it, being neutral, may prove to be less challenging for him in May in dealing with congress, both the republicans and democratic alike. The lunar node Ketu will also be more favorable in having less obstacles in governing the country.
Overall, May will likely prove to be a far better month so far for him.

Planetary Energies for Individuals
Mars-Saturn quincunx (May 14-16)
Mars-Saturn quincunx can be responsible for a situation of tension and friction. For those who have such quincunx in their birth charts, and if they have any one of these planets influencing them through the current progressive cycles certainly need to be careful in dealing with the surroundings around them. Perhaps simply lay back and do nothing. If you must involve in an unwanted but unavoidable situation, be extra careful and try to minimize the damage. Experiences like fire burns, rape, accidents, loss of precious things, and monetary disasters are real possibilities.
Rahu-Jupiter ninefold opposition (Ketu-Jupiter ninefold conjunction) (May 24-28)
While Rahu-Jupiter ninefold opposition is likely to temporarily favor orthodox and ultra conservative religious authorities, it also is going to sow seed of self-destruction for those authorities. Some sort of religious upheaval or conflict is likely to surface during this period. For those who have favorable Rahu-Jupiter aspect in their birth charts are likely to see some positive changes occurring in their lives during this period. However, for those who have lunar nodes squaring with the Jupiter are likely to face some rough times during this period.
