Apple Butter

Apple butter

Apple butter is like grown-up applesauce! It’s a great way to use up extra apples, and is a delicious spiced autumn treat. Serve it for a tasty Thanksgiving breakfast or as a fun holiday gift to friends and family!

Ingredients:
6 lbs mixed sweet and tart apples, unpeeled, uncored, and chopped
6 cups unsweetened apple cider
1 cup raw or white sugar, or light brown sugar
1 3” cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Instructions:
Bring the apples, apple cider, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and salt to a boil in a large, wide pot. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has cooked off and the apples are very soft. This should take about 1-1.5 hours.
Discard the cinnamon stick. Pass the apple mixture through a fine sieve into another bowl. Discard the peels, seeds and cloves.
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Place the mixture into a 13×9 baking pan and bake for 1.5-2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. The mixture will reduce and be thick and dark amber in color. Stir in the cider vinegar or lemon juice, and let cool in the pan.

Store in an airtight container. Will last for 1 month in the fridge.

Enjoy!
