What is Pranic Healing?

For many of us, summer is associated with spending more time outside, going to the beach, or dabbling in the garden. In “What is Pranic Healing?” a CranioSacral therapist and a Pranic healer Allison Kennelly discusses the benefits if this healing modality and also emphasizes the importance of being outdoors.

Pranic Healing is a healing practice that supports the removal of old energy and replacement of it with fresh energy. This focus on life energy, or prana, separates this modality from other forms of treatment. One of the underlying beliefs of Pranic Healing is that changes to the Energetic Body facilitate mental, emotional, and physical changes as well. Keeping the energy of our being in a healthy state means that we have the fuel to maintain our bodies and minds at a peak level.

Prana is the energy which sustains all living things.

How do we naturally absorb prana? We innately take in three types of prana from the world around us:

1. Air prana (energy from the air)
2. Solar prana (energy from the sun)
3. Ground prana (energy from the earth)

The amount of energy we are able to exchange is going to be influenced by the quality and amount of natural prana options that we have access to. If you live in a location where the air has significant pollution, this is going to impact the amount and quality of the air prana you are able to intake. If you do not spend time outside, it is going to be difficult to have access to solar prana or ground prana.

The three types of prana are absorbed by corresponding chakras which then digest the prana and break it down into its usable components for the body. This system can be thought of as “inhaling” fresh prana and “exhaling” dirty prana through the chakras. This system needs to be properly maintained. Exposure to toxins, germs, negative emotions, injuries, and other stressors can wear down our levels of healthy, fresh energy and leave us depleted, or congested with negative and used energy.

When our energetic anatomy is not able to expel used energy and intake fresh, healthy energy, our energetic anatomy is out of balance. If this system breaks down, ill health results. This imbalance can create ailments in physical, mental, and emotional health.

Pranic Healing works to correct this imbalance, and the resulting illness. Cleaning away stagnant, congested, and diseased energy prior to adding fresh energy is very important. This cleansing is analogous to wringing out a sponge. The dirty water a sponge holds prevents new water from being absorbed. Once you wring it out, not only can the sponge begin absorbing clean water again, but it will absorb water much faster. This is also true of chakras. Cleansing the dirty energy before replenishing the system will allow for a much faster return to balance and therefore health.
