Meditation for Connecting with Life Energy

This meditation will facilitate getting directly in touch with the Infinite Life Force which is performing all of the amazing gifts of our time, including dissolving our inner limitations so that we may be at One with the Divine (which is simply the flow of Life).

Sit comfortably in an alert position. (This can also be done lying down as long as you are not prone to falling asleep.) Close your eyes. Feel the breath as it enters and leaves the body. It is okay if you have a visual image but do your best to FEEL the sensations of the breath touching the inside of your body. Really feel it coming and going. It does not need to be a well-defined experience. Just a gentle but persistent intention to feel the breath is best. Do that anywhere from 20 seconds to a few minutes – however long it takes for you to feel settled but not drowsy. (This is a wonderful stand-alone meditation that can be done for indefinite periods of time.)

Once your attention is settled in the body, it is easy to feel all body sensations. You may do a body scan from head to toe if that feels right to you. The main thing is that you are aware of body sensations such as the pressure on different parts of your body from your sitting or lying position, as well as inner feelings of tension, relaxation, pressure, openness, etc. Be as aware as possible of everything happening in and with the body. Do this for another 20 seconds to a few minutes. (This body sensation meditation can also be done on its own for an indefinite period of time.)

Next, ask yourself, “What is the source of everything I feel?”  Or “What is keeping this body alive?” Don’t look for a conceptual answer but see if you can sense the life force and life source of your existence. Or simply place your attention on the aliveness of the body. Keep bringing your intention back to sensing or BEING the life force that is the source of all perception. Stay with this for at least a minute. If you are really feeling the Energy, just 5 to 10 minutes can be immeasurably transformative. I recommend limiting this practice to 20 minutes because the mind tends to sneak in there and begin to co-op the experience by creating all kinds of illusory (imaginary) grand experiences that just feeds the ego.

Experiences vary widely, but the most common report is feeling tingling in various parts of the body or waves of energy. Sometimes one experiences an overall alive presence or a subtle field of energy. It is totally okay if it cannot be put into words. What if the Energy feels disturbing or agitated? This is not a bad thing. It is likely that the turbulence is caused by the Divine Energy hitting an obstacle and dissolving some limitation as mentioned above. This is the gift! What if you feel smoothness or nothing significant? Does it mean you are free of all limitations?  Unlikely. It is more likely that you have not yet surrendered enough surface thinking to feel the Divine Energy that flows on a deeper level. Just keep doing it. I know of several people who have persisted and discovered a whole new dimension of life!
