The 2020 Spring Equinox, or Ostara, falls on March 19. On this day, the hours of day and night are equal and Springtime is celebrated. Here are some ways to celebrate!
1. Begin a Garden
Whether in the ground or in pots, planting seeds symbolizes the sun reemerging after the cold Winter, and the rebirth of the earth.
2. Try to Balance an Egg
Eggs also symbolize fertility and birth. There is a myth that says an egg can only balanced on it’s end on this day, reflecting the balance of daytime and nightime hours.
3. Switch Up Your Diet
Winter is great for heartier meals like stew to keep the body warm. As the weather begins to lighten, switch to vegetable and fruit heavy meals to reflect the season.
4. Minimalize
Often called Spring Cleaning, this is a wonderful time to purge items that are no longer needed, to cleanse the home, and the let fresh air flow through the windows.
5. Honor Eostre
Eostre is a Germanic goddess of Spring. Honor her by wearing or decorating with light colors, planting a tree or a fruit tree, donating to animal shelters, giving fresh flowers to loved ones, and if possible, adopt a rabbit!
6. Hold a Small Ritual to Set Intention
During the day of Ostara, either alone or with some friends, write your intentions for the time of rebirth on an egg. Feel free to paint or color the eggs as well with symbols of rebirth and growth. Then, bury the egg and plant seeds above it. As the plant grows, so will your intentions!
