Exploring the Mysteries of the Pineal Gland

Mysteries of the Pineal Gland

Background

The pineal gland, often referred to as the “third eye,” has always been a subject of fascination and mystery. Hindu philosophy and Vedic medicine, written some 5000 years ago, describe the pineal – “the sixth chakra”, according to these traditions – as a window to the spiritual world, where mental power of the pineal gland resides, associating this gland with clairvoyance and meditation, professing that its activity is nocturnal. The first detailed descriptions of the pineal are found in the works of Galen (131-200 AD), expounding on a theory that proposed the gland was an organ exercising valvular control. His underlying theoretical bases were founded on the pneumatic school of Alexandria. Acting like a pump, the pineal gland was thought to distribute “spiritus animalis” around the body. Galen’s whole structure was called the “pneumatic-ventricular model” and was purely hydraulic in nature. The “pneumatic-ventricular model” provided the theoretical basis of René Descartes (1596–1650), a great philosopher renowned for pronouncing the pineal “the principal seat of the soul”.

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, a prominent occultist and co-founder of the Theosophical Society in the late 19th century, believed that ancient civilizations possessed profound spiritual and esoteric knowledge that modern humanity had largely lost. According to her, ancient peoples had a deeper understanding of the pineal gland’s significance and knew methods to activate it. She stated that remnants of this knowledge were preserved in various mystical and esoteric traditions, which could be accessed and revived.

Spiritual Antenna

Modern science describes the pineal gland as a tiny endocrine gland located in the center of the brain. It is responsible for regulating the body’s circadian rhythm by secreting a hormone known as melatonin. This gland receives information about the daily light-dark cycle from the retinas in our eyes and then produces and releases melatonin accordingly, with higher levels of melatonin at night and lower levels during the day.

For readers of My Indigo Sun, another aspect of the pineal gland is fascinating, particularly the ancient concept of the pineal gland’s ability to serve as a “spiritual antenna.” It is not a coincidence that in many (if not all) ancient spiritual traditions, it is regarded as the physical manifestation of a metaphysical gateway. This tiny gland is viewed as the key to unlocking intuition, spiritual insight, and a sense of connectedness with the universe. When activated, this spiritual antenna is capable of evoking experiences of profound inner vision, prophetic dreams, and astral projection.

At the heart of the pineal gland’s role is its ability to tune into different frequencies of the universe, much like a radio dial tuning into various stations. Meditation, chanting, breathing techniques, mindfulness, and visualization help to “tune” the pineal gland to perceive higher frequencies of consciousness. We describe these moments as touching the divine, experiencing the oneness of all things, or receiving profound spiritual insights.

There’s a fascinating concept that links the pineal gland with biophotons, the light particles believed to be emitted by living organisms. Some suggest that the pineal gland can both emit and perceive these biophotons, facilitating a form of biological light-based communication.

There are several practices that utilize this connection between the pineal gland and biophotons. Energy healing, light therapy, sound and color therapy are all one way or another based on the interaction of biophotons and the pineal gland.

Neuroscientists say that these biophotons are guided light waves which involve multiple neurons orchestrating the ‘wave’, implicating a holographic matrix in the brain, a holographic matrix of light. It allows for entangled computations instead of a mechanistic machine like a computer.

Further, the pineal gland, which doesn’t have the left/right dichotomy of the brain, is at the center of the brain with the highest blood flow of any organ except the kidney, no blood-brain barrier, has a cornea-like structure, a rudimentary lens, and a simple retina. Recent findings show that it is made of structured calcite microcrystals and most likely acts as a primary regulator of the bio-photonic system that allows for a holonomic brain (developed by David Bohm) in which the brain is literally a holographic matrix of light. This is most likely why we cannot pinpoint every function in the brain to a specific sector.

Modern Day Risks for Pineal Gland

The calcification of the pineal gland has captured the attention of many spiritual seekers. It has been noticed that as we age, the pineal gland becomes hardened with calcium deposits, hindering its ability to function as a spiritual antenna. It has become possible to observe that the gland does indeed accumulate calcium, visible in X-rays as “brain sand.”

The widespread use of fluoride in water supplies is viewed as a part of a deliberate attempt to dull the masses’ spiritual awareness by calcifying their pineal glands. There is a significant body of research proving the connection between water fluoridation and lower IQ in children as well as the early development of dementia. (My Indigo Sun continues to track the status of the court trial related to the issue we covered in the March 2023 edition.)

The realm of electromagnetic frequencies, the proliferation of Wi-Fi and other EMFs, is also a part of disrupting the natural functioning of the pineal gland. There’s also the idea that certain TV programs and subliminal messages are designed to keep the pineal gland – and thus, human consciousness – in a subdued state.

The health of the pineal gland is at the core for many members of our indigo community. To counteract harmful effects of the environment, we follow the guidance of elders who recommend the consumption of raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, claiming it helps dissolve calcium deposits. Others suggest the intake of boron, found in foods like almonds and avocados, or tamarind, that help flush fluoride from the body. Yoga and chanting are some other wonderful ways to stimulate and “vibrate” the pineal gland back to its optimum spiritual health.

It is fascinating to know that we are all divinely equipped with this magical tool that allows communication in a language beyond words, a cosmic conversation through which one can receive intuitive knowledge, guidance, and wisdom. It is God’s invitation to a dance of light and energy that transcends the physical, leading to profound spiritual awakenings.”
