The New Moon of Aquarius begins a yearly month-long process of exploring the quality and level of emotional support we derive from our ability to LIVE LIFE AUTHENTICALLY, according to the dictates of our own unique selves. It also tests our capacity to emotionally detach from all forms that no longer reflect back to us an image of our authentic selves, helping us to lovingly and objectively release things, activities, and people that impede our ability to move forward and realize a higher vibration of being than previously experienced. During the Capricorn Lunation, we had the opportunity to redefine the reality structures we create to live our lives effectively and efficiently. In response to this awareness (and possible changes or adaptations made in the way we organize and understand reality), we may have a new understanding of who we are and feel the need to express our uniqueness (individuality) differently in the world. When reality shifts, the rules about society, and one’s ethical and moral place within that society, are redefined, and a slightly different, more authentic version of “Self” arises. The Aquarius Lunation challenges us to deal with the emotional insecurities that block us from being honest and faithful about who we really are, right out loud. Scary as this may be, this is the month to “let your freak flag fly” and feel good about it in spite of possible protests from those who “know” you and are invested in your staying the same. The process of individuation, or self-actualization, often challenges relationships, but it also opens the door for new, richer and more honest ways of relating with those you know and with new folks you will now draw to you. Aquarian lunar work involves raising one’s personal vibration to a higher level. Your entire world now moves to accommodate that new vibration. Be it welcome or painful, change is inevitable.
True emotional freedom requires detachment. The Aquarius Lunation forces us to examine our ability to detach from the life experiences that disempower us and inhibit us from feeling free to express our own unique individuality without judgment, criticism and rejection. We will be more sensitive than usual to our own judgments of others, as well as the experiences and people that cause us distress, pain, self-doubt, or shame for being who we truly are. The innovative, inventive, original, and occasionally “weird” aspects of one’s nature need to “be free to be free” at least some of the time. That need is in all of us, although more critical for some than others. The transit of Uranus Aquarius Lunation exaggerates and intensifies the emotional yearning and impulse to “unleash the real me” and express “Authentic Self” spontaneously, more honestly and without reservation. We are likely to become aware of deeply ingrained emotional patterns that inhibit such freedom, and be more willing to do the hard work needed to detach from the “chains that bind”. Emotional work done this month is about detachment and the willingness to risk a new level (higher vibration) of self-individuation and acceptance.
The Aquarius Lunation also calls upon us to examine the level of emotional satisfaction we derive from friends, outer world alignments, and humanitarian service. The opportunity to become more involved in the larger world via community activity or alignment with organizations that reflect your personal values and interests should not be ignored. Much emotional fulfillment and greater appreciation for Self (Leo) can be gained from service to a larger cause. Such service also teaches us volumes about graceful and loving emotional detachment because, ”It’s not personal”, right? The Aquarius question is, first, “Do I believe in and value myself enough to recognize the precious gift I have to give, and am I willing to give it to serve the larger good?” Second, Can I detach from little “e” ego enough to discover how big “E” EGO (the God/Goddess within) works through me in both conscious and unconscious ways? Aquarius celebrates the principle of authenticity and the freedom to be the individual that each of us is destined to be. It takes great courage and detachment, and sometimes outright rebellion, to truly “march to the beat of your own drum” and live life according to the only one-of-a-kind YOU there is. If nothing else, at least use this month to hear your own drumbeat!

consists ultimately in accepting ourselves as we are.”
